Meet your Professional Dog Trainers in Washington DC

Beth Aldrich – Head Trainer

As with most canine professionals, Beth Aldrich loves dogs. Her goal is to give every owner the tools and strategies to create a strong and rewarding bond with their dog. Beth has spent almost 8 years in the canine industry of the D.C. metropolitan area working as a dog walker, dog caretaker in a group facility, and manager of several doggie daycares.

Beth has also donated her time fostering and rehabilitating countless dogs from many local rescues, including the Washington Humane Society, Rural Dog Rescue, and Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. Through all these positions, Beth has earned hands-on experience with many different breeds, temperaments, and behavior issues.

Bethany Bennett – Professional Dog Trainer

Despite growing up without any of her own, Bethany Bennett has always found a way to surround herself with animals. She was always interested in learning what makes them do what they do. Fresh out of school, she stumbled upon a job opportunity working as a dog handler at a doggy daycare in D.C. On her first day, she was greeted by a black Labrador retriever. The lab pushed a ball under the gate and waited patiently until Bethany threw it so he could retrieve it. It was love at first sight. Soon after that, Bethany knew she wanted to work with dogs forever.

Bethany spent the next decade and a half working at the doggy daycare, volunteering at the PG Animal Shelter, and working with Rural Dog Rescue and Homeward Trails Rescue. During that time, she saw the bond between owner and dog deteriorate due to the owners’ inability to “speak dog.”

Savanna Mitchell – Professional Dog Trainer

As the daughter of a veterinarian, Savanna has been an animal lover her whole life. Growing up, she helped train hunting dogs with her dad and worked with dogs at a local shelter during college. After moving to Washington, D.C. in 2016, she quickly got involved with a local rescue. She began fostering dogs and eventually adopted two pups of her own.

Savanna can empathize with dogs and owners facing tough behavioral issues. She first discovered Monument Dog Training as a client seeking guidance for behavioral issues with one of her own dogs. After working with Beth and seeing the great progress her pup, Ruby, made with the skills and techniques the trainer introduced, Savanna decided to take the next step in her own career. She became a certified dog trainer and behaviorist.

Our D.C. Dog Training Programs

Below, you will find the IN-HOME training strategies we offer at Monument Dog Training.

LIMA

LIMA dog training stands for Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive. It’s a training strategy that includes humane and effective training tools most likely to succeed in achieving a training or behavior change objective.

Real World

Dog training must work in the real world. Monument prepares you for real-life scenarios that put standard training regimens to the test. While helping you build a solid relationship with your dog, we also teach you how to expose your dog to real-world distractions, like the park, the vet, a restaurant, etc.

Balanced

Our training methodology includes all four quadrants of the Operant Conditioning Theory. Put simply, we believe in training that is not too harsh or too lenient. We always consider the specific dog, owner, and situation when developing a training program.

Puppy Training

Our puppy training program is for puppies 7 weeks and older. We will work on all of the basic commands and skills needed to have a well-mannered puppy. This includes potty training, crate training, leash walking, focus, impulse control, and commands such as sit, down, stay, come, etc.

Aggressive Dogs

Monument has the best aggressive dog training in D.C.! If you have an aggressive dog and are worried about safety and liability, we’re here to help. We address all forms of aggressive and reactive behavior, including fear, leash, human, dog, sibling, food, territorial, and more.

Separation Anxiety

Does your dog struggle when you leave home or place them in a crate or separate room? If so, you need our dog separation anxiety training program. This is one of many dog training services in Washington, D.C. that we offer.

Professional dog training for any breed

Monument Dog Training offers the best dog obedience training in DC because we work with all dogs. Big or small, we help them all! We address a variety of training needs: basic training, focus, off-leash obedience, recall, leash walking around other dogs, impulse control, enrichment, calm greeting behavior, and so much more!

D.C. puppy training classes also available

Monument Dog Training offers several training programs, including puppy training in Washington, D.C. for puppies 7 weeks and older.  Our expert dog trainers will put you in charge, teaching you how to train your puppy, puppy manners, and proper puppy socialization. All the while, you’ll be forming a strong, lifelong bond. For more info, see our service page for puppy socialization in D.C.

Don’t forget—we provide basic obedience skills and training for dogs of ALL ages! While we have our expert puppy training program, we also offer in-home dog training for older dogs. You can teach old dogs new tricks!

Our unique in-home dog training approach

Monument’s in-home dog training methods provide all the benefits of teaching your dog without taking your dog to group classes. We schedule training sessions around your schedule, in the comfort of your home, using training programs custom-designed for your dog. In-home dog training makes it easy for you to stay involved in your dog’s training, which is vital to the program’s success.

While we don’t train service dogs or agility competitors, we do ensure that your dog is well-mannered and obedient—important first steps to additional dog training.
